A gay aide to a Colorado state Democratic senator says he was fired for simply visiting a friend who worked in the office of a Republican state senator.
According to CampusReform.org, 21-year-old Tyler Drum was allegedly dismissed from the staff of state Sen. Irene Aguilar without a solid explanation, other than being told that "leadership was uncomfortable with me befriending Republicans."
"I thought this would happen on the Republican side, now I'm a disenchanted Democrat," Drum told the online publication.
"This was my first job after graduating, [the Democrats] don't care about my situation, they don't care to know who I am," added Drum, a registered Democrat who graduated college last year.
Campus Reform said Aguilar's office did not respond to requests for comment.
