Ford Motor Company shut down an Alabama car dealership's promo that doled out a Bible, a flag, and a shotgun to anyone who bought a vehicle.
Instead, after just three days, a five-weeks-long "God, Guns, and Freedom" sales promotion at Chatom Ford was replaced with a less controversial giveaway, an NBC affiliate reported.
"My first impression was 'only in Alabama will you see something like this: a gun, a bible, and an American flag given away if you buy a pickup truck," Brian DeMarco, a Chatom resident told the affiliate.
At the request of the automaker, the gun portion of the giveaway ended — and in its place, new vehicle buyers got a $200 gift certificate.
The name of the revised weeklong promo was changed to "God, Glory, and Freedom," the affiliate reported.
