The Consumer Product Safety Commission spent $27,009 for video production in its annual demonstration about fireworks safety on the national mall last Tuesday. At the event, the agency makes dummies explode and discusses how to stay safe around sparklers.

The agency creates the same video each year.

Ann Marie Buerkle, the acting chairman of the commission, urged viewers to only use consumer-grade fireworks, and leave professional-level fireworks to professionals. “Professional fireworks are extremely powerful and dangerous,” the video warned.

“Make sure if you’re using consumer fireworks, you keep a bucket of water or a hose handy,” Buerkle added.

“If you have a firework that doesn’t light, that’s a dud, don’t try to relight it,” Buerkle said.

This year, the agency streamed the demonstration live on Facebook. In one demonstration in the video, a fireworks explosion blows a dummy’s head completely off.

According to a transaction report, the agency paid $27,009 to CACI Inc. Federal, the same company that produced the agency’s 2015 fireworks safety video.

Fireworks accidents led to more than 11,000 Americans being treated in emergency rooms in 2016, the agency said, according to NBC News.
