It’s happened before, and it will happen again.
As we approach the first anniversary of a pandemic that has killed over 500,000 Americans, it’s hard to conceive the suffering and loss felt around the country and the world.
But Americans are no stranger to adversity.
It's in our DNA. We've been overcoming obstacles and hardships since the very beginning, and this time will be no different.
A year into this virus, we’re finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Real light.
Despite the ridiculous projections still being lobbed out by medical professionals, including the indomitable Dr. Anthony Fauci, the vaccine will finally spell the end of the lockdowns, social distancing, and yes, the masks. And after that — in the not too distant future — it will be time to party.
It’s happened before, and it will happen again.
In the early 1920s, Prohibition coincided with one of the longest parties in American history, and people were ready to celebrate.
We had just won the first World War and had gone through suffering from the Spanish Influenza Pandemic (1918-1920).
Millions died.
However, what followed was what we fondly call the "Roaring Twenties," a decade-long period of jazz, flappers, and endless Gatsby-style parties.
All of that came to a crashing end with the implosion of the stock market in 1929; largely caused by the buying of stocks on margin.
We saw the same thing happen after World War II, the deadliest war in history.
Americans rightfully felt good.
We had just defeated Fascism.
What followed was one of the most peaceful periods we've ever known.
More babies were born in the 1950s than any other decade in American history, the suburbs boomed and most of the greatest generation was ready to BBQ with neighbors, who like you, worked hard and raised families.
Americans today of a certain age look back on that decade with a smile — and when you hear people say, "back in the good old days. . . " they’re usually referring to some distant time like the 1950s.
When President Ronald Reagan called America a "shinning city on a hill," he was almost certainly referring to this period: The Golden Age of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe, and Mickey Mantle starring for the New York Yankees.
It was when America became the America we know today, and it will happen again.
Even though we live in a drastically different time, Americans young and old, from elementary schools to nursing homes, from the bars that were able to stay open to stadiums and theaters everywhere, Americans are ready to party.
Americans are ready to throw their masks in the trash, and forget about COVID regulations set by Dr. Fauci, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., and other coronavirus opportunists.
One day, in the not too distant future, shaking hands will be back in vogue.
Hugging will be acceptable again.
Dating apps will pick back up.
People will smile, and it will last awhile, maybe long enough for all of us to figure out how this happened?
But sometime, right around 2024 when it becomes clear that the Biden-Harris Administration is incapable and unwilling to hold China responsible for letting this virus kill people in over two-hundred nations globally, Americans will go shopping for a new president.
Hopefully one that makes sure this never happens again.
