Any Facebook employee who wants to work an election poll will be given extra paid time off to do so, Axios reports.

Facebook executives told Axios that all employees of the social media platform will be allowed to take additional paid time off to staff polls and attend any necessary training required to become a poll worker.

Facebook already gives its employees extra paid time off to vote.

The company’s push to encourage employees to sign up to work polls comes as many election officials warn of a shortage of poll workers amid the coronavirus pandemic. Typically, older people, who are more susceptible to catching coronavirus, serve as poll workers.

In addition, the social media company will begin notifying users who are 18 or older about how they can sign up to be a poll worker in their state.

Axios reports that Facebook users will see an alert about becoming a poll worker on top of the app starting Saturday. The alert will send users to each state’s website for more information.

The company has already offered election officials across the country free ad credits to promote recruiting poll workers.
