President Donald Trump could not commit to saying he was tested on the day of the first presidential debate before his COVID-19 infection, but he said he supports Americans wearing a face mask.

"As far as the mask is concerned, I'm good with masks," Trump told NBC News' Savannah Guthrie during his town hall debate in Miami on Thursday night. "I'm O.K. with masks.

"Just the other day they came out with a statement that 85% of the people that wear masks catch it."

Trump said he does not know where he contracted COVID-19, but he refused to place blame on a meeting with Gold Star military families, a private New Jersey fundraiser, or the nomination even for Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

"Hey, I'm president, I have to see people," Trump said, adding a jab for Democrat challenger Joe Biden, who he has often criticized for staying too long in his basement. "I can't be in a basement. I can't be in a room."
