Equinox and SoulCycle customers are boycotting the luxury gym and studio after learning of billionaire owner Stephen Ross' plans to host a fundraiser for President Donald Trump, The Washington Post reports.
Ross, who is also the owner of the Miami Dolphins, was also slammed by Dolphins wide received Kenny Stills, LGBTQ advocate Wilson Cruz-Echevarria, and actor and prominent LGBTQ activist George Takei, among others.
"You can't have a non profit with this mission statement then open your doors to Trump," Stills tweeted in reference to Ross' Initiative in Sports for Equality.
The photo attached to Stills' tweet includes RISE's statement, which reads: "We are a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice, and improve race relations."
Ross' fundraiser for Trump is set to take place in the Hamptons this weekend at a cost of $250,000 for lunch, a photo, and a private roundtable.
A Change.org petition urging people to leave Equinox and SoulCycle had garnered more than 1,800 signatures by Wednesday evening.
Both companies issued joint statements assuring the gay community of their support.
