A U.S. soldier and immigrant from Ghana who died in New York City's deadliest fire in 25 years was hailed a hero in his funeral Saturday, as The New York Times reported.
Army National Guard Pfc. Emmanuel Mensah also posthumously received two medals of valor Friday before his funeral, according to CBS News.
Mensah, 26, was among the 13 deaths – victims aged from one to 63 – in the Bronx fire after repeatedly going back into the burning building to help save lives, according to reports.
"According to those who saw him, he came out about three times helping people out and then the fourth time he went back to help, he didn't come back," his uncle, Twun Bredu, reportedly said in December.
The fire was reportedly started by a 3-year-old playing with a stove in the five-story apartment building.%%
