Biden Admin Might Probe Musk Deals for National Security Concerns

U.S. officials might conduct national security reviews of billionaire Elon Musk's ventures following his recent comments about Russia and potentially ceasing Starlink access in Ukraine.

Bloomberg MarketWatch reported U.S. officials are concerned about Musk's comments and his pending agreement to buy Twitter for $44 billion, a deal that has drawn scrutiny partly due to the presence of certain foreign investors, including a Saudi prince, the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, and a cryptocurrency exchange previously based in China.

"We do not know of any such discussions," a White House spokesperson told Bloomberg.

Earlier this month, Musk tweeted a poll of potential "Ukraine-Russia peace" agreements which said Crimea is "formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev's mistake)," referencing the transfer of the region during the Soviet era by former Premier Nikita Khrushchev.

More recently, he tweeted a statement implying Starlink might pull out of Ukraine as it was losing money and not receiving government funding, though The Wall Street Journal reported the U.S. Agency for International Development has sponsored thousands of Starlink kits being sent to Ukraine.
