Ellen DeGeneres could not wrap her head around Caitlyn Jenner's conservative outlook on life after their Tuesday interview, in which the former Olympian and Republican said she was initially skeptical about same-sex marriage when it first became an issue.

"A lot of Republicans — I don’t want to speak for everyone — would vote against all the issues that you as a woman, and you, as a trans person, would want someone to support," said DeGeneres.

"I remember 15, 20 years ago when the whole gay marriage issue came up — at first I was not for it. I'm a traditionalist. I'm older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it's always been a man and a woman. I'm thinking, 'I don't quite get it,'" Jenner, 65, told DeGeneres, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"I think, like a lot of people on this issue, I have really changed my thinking here to, 'I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.' That’s not my job, okay? If that word — marriage — is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."

While Jenner ultimately offered her support for same-sex marriage, DeGeneres didn't seem to want to take yes for an answer.

In a separate interview on Tuesday with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show, DeGeneres — who is married to actress Portia De Rossi — complained about the Jenner interview.

"She still has a judgment about gay marriage," DeGeneres alleged.

"You're wanting people to understand and accept you — this is like really confusing to people and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage... it was a great interview. I'm grateful that she was on the show. And I don't really know her and I'm trying to understand it because I don't fully understand it either — but I also want everyone to be happy. So I don't fully understand all of that, but I want her to be happy."

Stern then asked if Jenner danced with her, as many guests do. DeGeneres said no, then proposed that Jenner might be homophobic, saying, "Maybe she didn’t want to dance with me because I’m a lesbian."

Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, came out as transgender earlier this year. She now stars in her own reality TV show, "I Am Cait."
