Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is launching new TV ads on CNBC that tear into a number of wealthy individuals in finance and tech to further push her wealth tax.
The ads, which will air Thursday morning on CNBC’s "Squawk on the Street" program, includes clips of former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, former TD Ameritrade CEO Joe Ricketts, Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel, investor Leon Cooperman and others criticizing Warren’s proposed wealth tax.
Warren, a Democratic presidential frontrunner, has proposed paying for a Medicare-for-all plan by putting a 2 percent tax on wealth over $50 million and an additional 1 percent tax on wealth over $1 billion. The Massachusetts lawmaker estimates her healthcare overhaul will cost an additional $20.5 trillion in federal spending over 10 years without having to raise middle-class taxes.
The video, titled “Elizabeth Warren Stands Up to Billionaires” is the latest move against billionaires who have slammed Warren’s proposal.
Cooperman said Warren “represents the worst in politicians as she’s trying to demonize wealthy people because there are more poor people then wealthy people.”
“As far as the accusations of insider trading, I won the case. She’s disgraceful. She doesn’t know who the f--- she’s tweeting. I gave away more in the year then she has in her whole f----ing lifetime,” he added.
