In the wake of the New York City terror attack, an ad depicting a rampaging pickup truck driver who supports Ed Gillespie, Virginia's Republican gubernatorial candidate, has been pulled, The Washington Free Beacon is reporting.
The Latino Victory Fund canceled the ad after the truck attack in New York City on Tuesday and explained its decision on Twitter:
Gillespie's campaign said the ad was "vile," according to The Washington Times.
The ad depicted minority children running from a pickup sporting a bumper sticker in support of Gillespie, according to The Washington Post. It was designed to ease concerns about Democrat Ralph Northam's struggle to connect with minority voters, the newspaper said.
Northam's campaign did not have anything to do with the ad, the newspaper said. However, he did defend it earlier in the week, saying Gillespie's campaign "promoted fearmongering, hatred, bigotry, racial divisiveness. I mean, it's upset a lot of communities, and they have the right to express their views as well."
