Congress’ decision to repeal the ban on open gays and lesbians serving in the military should create a positive outcome for ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) programs. They will return to college campuses as a result of the vote, Politico
Harvard University President Drew Faust says, "I look forward to pursuing discussions with military officials and others to achieve Harvard's full and formal recognition of ROTC." The vote provides "the opportunity for a new era in the relationship between universities and our military services," says Columbia University President Lee Bollinger.
Bill Kristol of The Weekly Standard's says repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell policy” should spark instant pressure to reinstate ROTC on campus. “One trusts the presidents and trustees of colleges that have been keeping ROTC at arm's length, allegedly because of DADT, will move posthaste to ensure a hearty welcome and full equality for ROTC at their universities," he writes.
