Jewish leaders met separately with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director James Comey on Thursday to discuss a wave of threats that left communities unnerved.
"The Department of Justice will not tolerate hate crimes against Jewish communities or the targeting of any community in this country on the basis of their religious beliefs," the agency said in a statement.
The Hill reported the talks came after authorities in Israel arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with bomb threats to numerous Jewish Community Centers throughout the U.S.
His arrest was the result of an extensive investigation by Israeli police in cooperation with the FBI, The Jerusalem Post reported. The suspect's identity has not been released, but he is suspected of more than 100 bomb threats against Jewish institutions throughout the world, the newspaper said.
Sessions praised community leaders on Thursday "for their responsiveness, efficiency, calm and competence in the face of those who would threaten these institutions and the millions of Americans who walk through their doors," The Hill reported.
Attending the meeting with Sessions were officials from the JCC Association of North America. Comey met with Jewish Federations of North American chief Jerry Silverman and others, The Hill reported.
