President Donald Trump's "dogcatcher" insult aimed at Sen. Bob Corker over Twitter on Tuesday also was taken as an insult to actual dogcatchers, The Hill reports.
Though, they prefer to be called "animal control officer," Robert Leinberger Jr., the vice president of the National Animal Care & Control Association, told The Hill.
Trump earlier in the day said Corker "couldn't get elected dogcatcher in Tennessee" after the outgoing senator chastised the president on foreign policy and tax reform on the morning shows.
"To be elected dogcatcher — that's silly, really. That's just a degrading thing," Leinberger told The Hill. "You can't even be elected dogcatcher, because dogcatchers were considered the low end of the spectrum, low-class, so to speak. The role used to be people from low social class, criminals, felons, etc. back in the day."
