DNC Campaign Focusing on Getting Out the Youth Vote

By    |   Tuesday, 20 September 2022 02:11 PM EDT

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is kicking off a six-figure voter registration campaign aimed at attracting younger voters ahead of the midterms.

The campaign includes ads on a variety of platforms promoting IWillVote.com in connection with National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, according to Roll Call. It also includes planes pulling banners over college football stadium in two key states, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The planes will fly over Ann Arbor and East Lansing on Saturday at the University of Michigan and Michigan State game.

Planes also will fly over University Park, Pennsylvania, before the start of Penn State's game with Central Michigan, and over Pittsburgh ahead of Pitt's matchup with the University of Rhode Island, a DNC official told Roll Call.

The ads will focus on states where there are key gubernatorial, Senate, and House races.

"The right of every eligible citizen to vote is a core tenet of our democracy — and with so much on the line this year, it's never been more important that we exercise that right," DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement. "The stakes of the midterm elections are big for young Americans and the DNC is meeting them where they are to encourage them to register to vote and make their voices heard."

Roll Call said the ads will appear on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and digital screens close to college campuses.

The DNC said the digital ads will target college students in other key states, including Nevada and North Carolina.

Meanwhile, the progressive group ACRONYM is launching a $10 million online effort to register voters in southern states, Politico reported in August.

The group will target young people and minorities in Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. It is hoping to register and mobilize more than 100,000 voters online through Snapchat, Instagram, and other digital platforms, according to Politico.
