Parkland, Fla., shooting survivor David Hogg says he has a seven-year plan including a vow to run for Congress, New York magazine reported.
In an interview posted Monday, the 18-year-old, who has become a prominent anti-gun violence advocate since the Feb. 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people, laid out an agenda that leads to Washington, D.C.
“I think I’ve come to that conclusion,” he told the magazine. “I want to be at least part of the change in Congress.”
He told the outlet he and friends in the anti-gun violence “March for Our Lives” organization plan to spend the next several months meeting more activists and canvasing in advance of the midterm elections.
He hopes to go to college in the fall of 2019, “read a s**tload of books,” then take time off in 2020 to work on a presidential campaign, the magazine reported.
After college, he told the magazine he plans to prepare for his congressional run.
Hogg also believes Republicans are gaining more ground with young people than Democrats.
“The reason Republicans are successful right now is because they’re empowering young people,” he told the magazine. “Older Democrats just won’t move the [expletive] off the plate and let us take control. Nancy Pelosi is old.”
Hogg, who graduated this spring, announced in April he’d take a gap year to work on the midterms.
