President Donald Trump announced Thursday the flags on government buildings will be lowered to half-staff in honor of the nearly 100,000 people in the United States who have died of coronavirus.
Trump tweeted:
"I will be lowering the flags on all Federal Buildings and National Monuments to half-staff over the next three days in memory of the Americans we have lost to the CoronaVirus."
"...On Monday, the flags will be at half-staff in honor of the men and women in our Military who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Nation."
Trump always said one death from coronavirus is one too many. He has also used much of his time throughout the pandemic defending his response.
"It would serve as a national expression of grief so needed by everyone in our country," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote in a letter to Trump requesting the memorial when the U.S. death total reached 100,000.
