Sometimes it really pays to be grumpy.
A California federal court jury just awarded Grumpy Cat's owner, Tabatha Bundesen of Morristown, Ariz., $710,000 in a copyright case against a beverage company, The Washington Post reported.
Grumpy Cat – real name Tardar Sauce – became famous in 2012 after pictures of the sour puss pussycat went viral, spawning hundreds of hilarious memes.
The following year, a company called Grenade Beverage snagged a $150,000 deal to market iced coffee beverages featuring the cat's scowl.
But in 2015, Grenade decided to create a line of "Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee," which was not part of the deal. Bundesen's company, Grumpy Cat Limited, sued.
After a week-long trial, which Grumpy attended, the jury sided with Bundesen and her cat.
Grumpy's lawyer, David Jonelis, told CourtHouse News that Monday night's verdict was "a complete victory . . . Grumpy Cat feels vindicated and feels the jury reached a just verdict."
