More than 100 people on Staten Island have died from coronavirus, after the borough had its highest number of fatalities in a 24-period since the pandemic began, said the website silive.com.

Officially, the number of deaths has reached 105.

To date, Staten Island has seen 2,723 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the city health department. That includes 243 cases from Wednesday morning, alone.

The total number of coronavirus deaths in all boroughs is inching close to 1,400 after 258 died this past Wednesday morning.

The number of coronavirus cases on Staten Island, however, only account for 6% of the city's diagnoses.

The health department says over 98% of those who died with coronavirus on Staten Island had underlying illnesses such as diabetes, lung disease, cancer, immunodeficiency, heart disease, and liver disease.

The department also projects that 572 of every 100,000 resident on Staten Island has tested positive for coronavirus.

Queens, conversely, has shown the highest rate of cases throughout the city, as 717 residents per 100,000 have tested positive. Confirmed cases in Queens account for 34% of all coronavirus cases in New York City.

And while Manhattan has the lowest rates of coronavirus throughout the boroughs, it still has 16 percent of all total cases in the city.

And yet, the site said, there were glimmers of more positive news to be found in borough stats. An additional 84 coronavirus patients have been discharged from borough hospitals – 62 from Staten Island University Hospital and 22 from Richmond University - spokesmen said.

So far, 379 patients have been treated and released.

In addition, SIUH reported a dip in the number of patients being treated. As of Thursday morning, the website reported, 308 patients were receiving treatment, 60 fewer than the day before.
