CNN's emotionally charged town hall special Wednesday night drew 2.91 million total viewers, lifting it far above cable news competition in Nielsen ratings, Variety reported.
In the same 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. time frame, Fox News averaged 2.45 million and MSNBC averaged 2.31 million, the industry news outlet reported.
CNN was also ahead in the key 25-54 demographic, with the network nabbing 1.1 million viewers in that age spread — nearly double Fox News' 533,000 and more than double MSNBC's 490,000, Variety reported.
Younger viewers also flocked onto the cable network for the gun violence discussion, with 310,000 viewers in the 18-34. MSNBC averaged 78,000 in that demo in the same time frame while Fox News averaged 48,000.
The show, occurring a week after the mass shooting at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead, featured Florida lawmakers, an NRA spokesperson and the Broward County sheriff taking questions from survivors and family members of the victims.
