Former President Bill Clinton praises President Barack Obama’s decision to give the green light to the raid that killed Osama bin Laden and says he hoped he would have made the same decision.
Clinton’s remarks will be in a 17-minute Obama campaign documentary that will be released this week.
Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks narrates the documentary, which opens with Hanks doing a voice-over that notes the intelligence on the location of bin Laden was “inconclusive” and then moves to Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden says that Obama polled national security staff about their recommendations regarding the al-Qaida chieftan and 9/11 mastermind. “It’s a close call, Mr. President,” they told him, Biden saya.
“As he walked out the room, it dawned on me: He’s all alone. This is his decision," Biden recalls.
The scene then jumps to Clinton, who says, “He took the harder and the more honorable path. When I saw what had happened, I thought to myself, ‘I hope that’s the call I would have made.’”
Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim directed the short film, “The Road We’ve Traveled,” which will premiere at Obama campaign offices Thursday.
