A handful of medical, nursing and pharmacy schools are facing pressure from doctors, industry organizations and students to incorporate climate-change-related topics into their curriculum, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The news outlet lists the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign, U.C. San Francisco and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, as programs that have added related content so far.

The American Medical Association is backing the movement, and in June adopted a new policy to educate physicians and medical students on the adverse effects of climate change.

Urbana-Champaign offers a diagnosis exercise about asthma-related to wildfires and the Mayo Clinic is in discussions to introduce the topic as well.

For practicing physicians, the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., has added a continuing education certificate related to climate change and the University of Colorado Department of Emergency Medicine offers a fellowship on climate change and health policy.

Additionally, 187 schools and programs have joined Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s global consortium to promote climate change curriculum in health education. The consortium offers links to educational content, resources, and information on a wide variety of climate and health topics for members and health professions schools/programs.
