Ex-CIA Operative Simmons: Widespread ‘Incompetence’ in Obama White House

By    |   Wednesday, 17 October 2012 07:35 PM EDT

Former CIA operative Wayne Simmons charged in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV that “we’ve got some incompetence in the White House” on many issues — but foreign affairs in particular.

“They haven’t got a clue,” Simmons, who served in the Central Intelligence Agency for 27 years, said in an exclusive interview. He pointed to the Oct. 11 debate between Vice President Joe Biden and GOP candidate Paul Ryan at Centre College in Danville, Ky. for instance.

Story continues below video.

“We’ve got a guy who sits there and laughs at Congressman Ryan. It just goes on and on. I am not trying to diminish the importance of the domestic factors that we must address in the next 30 days. But those domestic issues — school vouchers and taxes and Obamacare — they don’t mean anything, because we have an administration that is so incompetent that it will absolutely negate our ever getting to implement those programs. That’s the problem.”

Urgent Poll: Obama or Romney? Who Won the Second Debate?

Simmons, who has spearheaded deep cover operations in Central and South America, as well as in the Middle East, is a member of the advisory board for the nonprofit Intelligence Summit educational organization and has recently released a novel, “The Natanz Directive: A Jake Conlan Thriller.”
He said the Obama administration demonstrated further incompetence when Biden said that the White House did not know that more security had been requested at the U.S. consulate in Libya before the Sept. 11 attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and four other Americans.

Biden’s statement contradicted congressional testimony less than 48 hours earlier from U.S. State Department officials that Stevens had made repeated requests for enhanced security at in Benghazi — requests that were subsequently denied.

The White House has since said that Biden was referring only to himself and Obama in the debate — and on the day of his second presidential debate with GOP challenger Mitt Romney, Obama accepted responsibility for the security failures that led to the assault.

“The comment that Joe Biden made is a lie. There is no other way to candy-coat it,” Simmons charged. “You can’t change it. This is not a political statement; this is a statement of fact.

“The facts are that the ambassador begged. He knew what was coming. They knew what was coming, they begged for administrative help — for security help, for security detail — and they got nothing.”

Urgent Poll: Obama or Romney? Who Won the Second Debate?

An “October surprise” attack on Libya by the U.S. — especially so close to the Nov. 6 presidential election — would be wasteful, he said.

“Libya’s already lost, unfortunately. It was misguided policy, or the lack thereof, that caused this. There is not much left that can be done by the Obama administration other than something so dramatic that when you get to this point in an administration where you have had no policy and you only have days left, it makes us very nervous.”

Despite the issues with Libya, Simmons said the greatest immediate threat in the Middle East is Iran.

“What we fear is not an American-directed action toward Iran prior to the election. I don’t care when it comes, quite frankly. It doesn’t matter to me,” he said.

“Iran has the nuke,” Simmons added. “They are getting the nuke. They have nuclear capability — so don’t tell me that they don’t have delivery capabilities, that they don’t have Seychelles, that they don’t have the ability to hit any place they want to hit in the Middle East. And certainly, they don’t have the capability to hit in Europe. Are you kidding me?”
