Chuck Woolery: Term Limiting Congress Could Curb Spending

Monday, 08 October 2012 11:08 AM EDT

Chuck Woolery, who hosted the “Love Connection” and “The Dating Game” TV shows, tells Newsmax TV that the Obama White House has disguised liberalism with socialism.

“The administration that we are in right now is a socialist administration,” Woolery, co-founder and chairman of the Restart Congress super PAC, tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “This country has been going down a socialist road for 120 years with progressivism and what they now call liberalism – and now, they are back to calling it progressivism.

“My biggest fear is that people will vote for a socialist agenda to continue big government – and when they do, it will just tear into the liberties and the foundation of the fabric of America.”

Woolery’s super PAC, Restart Congress, is pushing for a Constitutional amendment that would limit congressional terms. He realizes the Michigan-based nonpartisan organization has an uphill battle.

Story continues below.

“It is very difficult, because you are basically asking Congress to vote against itself – and vote itself out of office. In all reality, that will probably never happen,

“So, it’s going to be on the on the individual – and I’m not so sure that we are a country that can actually get together a group of people who can agree that their Congress, after two-to-four-year terms, should be voted out. We have people in office that have been there since the ’50s.

“I just firmly believe that you have to turn this people over,” Woolery said. “If you don’t, they will become corrupt – because power is corrupting, no matter who you are and how much you try to fight it. It will eventually catch up with you, and you will begin to go along with the status quo.

He added: I do fear for the country. I fear for my children and I fear for the debt that is going to be piled on them – and I just don’t think they will have the advantages in life that I’ve had, and that’s why I am so involved in this. I am just a citizen with a certain amount of celebrity that has an opinion and that’s where I am.”

A Navy veteran, Woolery has long been a conservative. He suppressed his views for years because of the pervading liberal bias in the entertainment industry.

“Had I been a courageous conservative, I would have been an out-of-work conservative – and you wouldn’t even know who I was because they would have not hired me. That’s just a fact,” he said.

Woolery does not believe that Hollywood can save Obama’s reelection bid. President Obama has the support of such celebrities as George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker.

“The interesting thing about is that the Hollywood left only became the left after McCarthyism in the ’50s. Prior to that, Hollywood was primarily with Walt Disney – and it was primarily a conservative group of people who ran the television and motion picture industry.

“But since the ’50s, it is just absolutely gone to the left. They have had writers and other people who were lefties –and most people who were journalists and writers and in the arts tended to be more left. Because they are looking for all of those catch phases, like equality and fairness when in fact nothing is ever equal and nothing is ever fair – but it is kind of a utopian idea.”
