Sen. Chuck Grassley, 85, says he is running 3 miles a day, 4 times a week to stay in shape.
The Iowa Republican revealed his fitness routine in an interview with Roll Call.
“I just wanna get out and do something so I don’t get fat, I guess,” he said.
Grassley, who is currently the oldest male senator, said he began running at age 65 after frequent visits to Iowa nursing homes as chairman of the aging committee, according to Roll Call.
“I wanted to make sure I was in shape so I didn’t get in that position … so I started running,” he said.
He runs while in D.C. and starts during the pre-dawn hours.
“I think I would be performing better if I had a running partner, but I don’t really want a running partner.”
And he added: “Running is best for me, but for someone else, it might not be.”
