President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that Christopher Steele, the author of the Steele dossier used to help make the case for Russian meddling during the 2016 election, be brought to the United States and thrown in jail.

Trump tweeted:

"This man should be extradited, tried, and thrown into jail. A sick lier [sic] who was paid by Crooked Hillary & the DNC!"

He added

"Bring back Steele!!!"

A judge in Steele's hometown of London ruled his intelligence firm owes $23,000 in damages for claiming billionaires Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman sent "large amounts of illicit cash" to Russian President Vladimir Putin while he served as deputy mayor in St. Petersburg.

Steele's dossier claimed Putin had incriminating information on Trump during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Despite the fact that some in the intelligence community felt Steele might have been misled by Russian information, he contended the information in his dossier was credible.

GOP congressional members and other Trump associates have criticized the FBI, which they felt put too much weight into the credibility of Steele's allegations during its investigation into Russian election meddling.
