Gov. Christie: ‘I Don’t Give a Damn About Election Day’

Flashing his trademark bluntness, Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, dealing with the biggest storm ever to hit his state, told reporters on Tuesday he doesn’t “give a damn” about Election Day, according to Politico.

During a morning briefing on Superstorm Sandy, which brutalized New Jersey, Christie said, “I don’t give a damn about Election Day. It doesn’t matter a lick to me at the moment. I’ve got bigger fish to fry.”

Christie also praised President Barack Obama for his response to the storm so far, telling news outlets that the president’s response had been “outstanding,” said that coordinating with the administration had been “wonderful,” and remarked that “the president has been all over this and he deserves great credit.”

“I’ve got a job to do here in New Jersey that’s much bigger than presidential politics, and I could care less about any of that stuff,” he told Fox News. “I have a job to do. I’ve got 2.4 million people out of power. I’ve got devastation on the Shore. I’ve got floods in the northern part of my state. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics, then you don’t know me.”

“The level of devastation on the Jersey Shore is unthinkable,” Christie said at the briefing.

“It is beyond anything I thought I would ever see,” he said. “Terrible. So we need to remain patient, let the waters recede, then we can go in and make an assessment about rebuilding that section of the Jersey Shore. It is a terrible sight right now.”
