New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie rejects the idea that state agencies like New Jersey Transit should have prepared for climate change before last October's Superstorm Sandy.
"I don’t think there’s been any proof thus far that Sandy was caused by climate change," he told
WNYC/New Jersey Public Radio.
"First of all, I don’t agree with the premise of your question because I don’t think there’s been any proof thus far that Sandy was caused by climate change," the Republican continued.
"But I would absolutely expect that that’s exactly what WNYC would say, because you know liberal public radio always has an agenda. And so since I disagree with the premise of your question I don’t feel like I have to answer the rest of it.”
The station had suggested that the Christie administration had not done enough to prepare for Hurricane Sandy and other severe weather that could be related to climate change.
Sandy caused billions of dollars in damage up and down the east coast. Congress finally approved $60.2 billion in relief aid earlier this year after overcoming opposition from fiscal hawks.
