A Marine Corps veteran who recently sprinted onto the field during a baseball game said he did it in the name of helping his fellow veterans.

Chris White jumped onto the field at Minute Maid Park in Houston after the sixth inning of a game between the Astros and Texas Rangers. He then stripped down to his stars-and-stripes underwear and ran across the outfield, dodging two security guards before surrendering when others confronted him in right field.

But he said the stunt was planned in order to raise awareness for Freedom Hard, an organization he founded that uses humor to spread patriotism and donates money to veterans groups, including those that deal with the issue of veteran suicides.

"If I can make you laugh for at least five minutes then you're not thinking about that dark space you could potentially be in," White told KRPC in Houston. "If I can gear it toward patriotism, to me, I consider that the holy grail.

"There are organizations out there that support the prevention of veteran suicides, and if you are a veteran that's struggling, there is hope. I can assure you that."

A crowdfunding page was set up that night to help raise bail money for White, who was charged with trespassing. He promptly took that $550 and gave it to a veterans retreat in North Carolina called Camp4Heroes.
