Troubled and troublesome actor Charlie Sheen is being slammed for racism over comments he posted
on his Twitter account aimed at President Barack Obama.
Sheen, who was fired from the show "Two and a Half Men" over his alleged drug use and erratic behavior, posted: "Barry Satera Kenya u won't attend a soldier's funeral uhkros da street that u kild yet u hav time 4 brackets? s a d c"
The tweet ran next to a photo of Obama's NCAA basketball "March Madness" bracket picks.
Sheen came under fire from Twitter users, one of whom posted: "You're an idiot, misogynist … and racist," and another who tweeted, "Probably didn't have to use the word Kenya. Makes ya look like a 'racist douche' - invalidates the whole tweet."
In what
The Guardian called "just the latest rant in the actor's downward spiral," Sheen, whose given name is Carlos Estevez, apparently misspelled Soetoro, the last name of Obama's Indonesian stepfather, and placed himself firmly in the camp of "birthers" who believe Obama was not born in the U.S., but in Kenya, thereby making him ineligible to be president.
One twitter user wrote: "What is wrong with you? That's an inherently racist tweet. Plus, the president has attended many funerals for soldiers," while another one commented, "Dude! You're NOT suposta drink the bong water!"
The Daily Beast noted: "This isn't Sheen's first brush with political crazy. He is an outspoken 9/11 'truther' who once requested a meeting with President Obama to discuss the re-examination of the 9/11 attacks" and "has also ripped Obama on gun control, asking for a 'fed-funded mandate' to place 'armed protection' on campuses in the wake of several school shootings."
Sheen,
The Washington Post reports, did not specify which solder's funeral he was referring to in his Twitter post.
Sheen, 49, also figures prominently in an upcoming tell-all book by his "Two and a Half Men" co-star Jon Cryer, called "So That Happened," in which Cryer says Sheen once helped him procure a prostitute and had him hide a bag of pornography when Sheen's then-wife Denise Richards unexpectedly came to their set,
Fox News reported.
"An astounding number of people stood up for Charlie, as though people should be able to show up to work rarely, if at all, verbally abuse their co-workers publicly with anti-Semitic slurs, get arrested on a regular basis — as well as abuse drugs to the point where they can barely function — and not have their high-paying jobs threatened," Fox News said Cryer wrote.
