Police Still Searching for CEO Assassin, Weapon

Law enforcement authorities continue to search for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week.

As U.S. Marshals try to figure out who and where the "person of interest" is, New York Police Department dive teams searched for the murder weapon in Manhattan's Central Park during the weekend, CBS News reported Monday.

Divers focused on the park's Bethesda Fountain all weekend in hopes of finding the weapon. If found, police might be able to discover where it was purchased and who owned it.

Police said the shooter might have used a veterinary gun, which is a larger, quieter firearm typically used by farmers to put animals down.

The NYPD on Saturday released two new photos of the alleged gunman. One photo showed him in the back seat of a taxi on the day of the shooting, The New York Times reported.

CNN reported NYPD officials are working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to search nationwide for the suspect. Rewards have been offered to the public.

Photos of the suspect have been circulated to multiple law enforcement agencies, including airports and border patrol stations along the Mexican and Canadian borders, the outlet said.

Thompson, 50, was murdered Wednesday morning outside the midtown Hilton hotel in what police have called a "brazen, targeted attack."

While they continue to try to confirmed the alleged shooter's identity and locate the bicycle he used to get away, police have found DNA from a discarded Starbucks water bottle, a partial fingerprint from the water bottle, a discarded "burner" cell phone, and 9-millimeter shell casings with the words "deny," "defend," and "depose" written on them.

The search for the suspect and evidence continued during the weekend after police Friday found a backpack they believe belonged to the shooter.

Fake Monopoly money and a jacket were found inside the backpack, though sources told CBS News the top was not the one worn during the shooting.

The FBI has put up posters about the suspect and promoted a $50,000 reward.

Authorities have said the man traveled to New York on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta, but they do not know where he boarded.

The man was last seen at the Port Authority bus terminal in upper Manhattan, near the George Washington Bridge, 45 minutes after Thompson was killed.
