The most common age for white people in the United States is 55 — way older than other ethnic groups, a new
Pew Research Center study reveals.
The study, based on U.S. Census data for the year 2015, found in comparison the most common age of black people was 24, while the most common age for Asians was 33. Pew also found that for Hispanics, the age was 8.
As well, the median age for white people — 43 — was higher than that for the total U.S. population — 37.
“One reason that non-Hispanic whites are disproportionately older than Americans overall is that they were the biggest population gainers from the post-World War II baby boom – an era before many of today’s minority immigrants entered the country," Pew’s George Gao said.
