Fla. Blames Caylee's Death On Her Mother

Friday, 12 August 2011 02:10 PM EDT

A Florida Department of Children and Families report places the blame for the death of 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony on her mother. The report carries little or no legal weight in the case of Casey Anthony, who was found not guilty in the death of her child, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The 12-page report noted that both Casey Anthony and her mother spoke candidly with child-protection investigators in 2008 when the child was missing but clammed up when Caylee’s remains were found. "It is the conclusion of the Department of Children and Families that [Casey Anthony] failed to protect her child from harm either through her actions or lack of actions, which tragically resulted in the child's untimely death," DCF spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner said according to the paper.

While of little or no value concerning Casey Anthony and Caylee, an expert thought the DCF's conclusions could help the state take quicker action if allegations of abuse are ever raised against Casey Anthony. "If Casey Anthony were to have another child, theoretically, these findings by DCF could be brought up in future allegations," Orlando lawyer Richard Hornsby told the paper.

Investigators noted in the report that Casey Anthony's actions were "neglectful" and said Casey failed to "report her child missing in a timely manner." Hoeppner said the probe was not a criminal investigation. The report was sent to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, but they will not result in any charges against Casey Anthony, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
