Author: Movie on Son’s Ordeal ‘Another Miracle From God’

The Georgia-based author whose books on her son’s 2009 acquittal in an accidental fatal shooting tells Newsmax TV that the new movie spawned from the two books “is just another miracle from God.”

“God continues to pour out miracles,” Jackie Carpenter, who lives in Ellaville, Ga., tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “When I see that, when I know where we were and where I see where we are today, I know that it was God that brought us here.”

Carpenter’s books have been turned into a movie titled “A Cry for Justice” due in theaters soon. It details the plight of her son, Jason Veitch, a Georgia builder who accidentally killed a man in June 2008 who had been stealing from his construction site.

Veitch was acquitted by a county court jury of felony murder and four other charges stemming from the nighttime shooting of the drywall worker.

Carpenter detailed her son’s ordeal in “The Bridge: Between ‘Cell Block A’ and a ‘Miracle’ is Psalm 91” (2010) and “Georgia Justice: Journey to Faith” (2011).

Written and directed by Michael McClendon, “A Cry for Justice” also details Carpenter’s struggles with her fail throughout her son’s plight.

“I never thought I’d write a book because I’m not a writer and I’d never written a thing in my life,” Carpenter tells Newsmax. “Never wanted to do it. In fact, I hate it; I hate the writing process. I didn’t want to write a book.”

The Christian-based film is based on Psalm 91, which discusses God’s promised protection.

“That’s exactly what we had in our hands: an impossible situation with no way out,” Carpenter tells Newsmax. “God was telling me this in Psalms: I can take the crooked way and make it straight. I can take the devices of the wicked and make them to non-effect.”

The movie follows the books fairly closely, Carpenter says.

“There are some twists and turns in there that I wasn’t expecting. That’s just wonderful. It’s a great movie. It’s a great movie whether you are a believer, whether you are a non-believer. It doesn’t matter.

“Some people will go to this and they’ll say: ‘Oh man, this is really encouraged my faith. It’s given me hope.’ And that’s what I hope they get out of it, because there’s so many people out there with nowhere to go.”
