Sen. Mike Lee, who has helped lead the Republican fight to defund Obamacare regardless of the implications, is suffering a significant drop in approval from his Utah constituents,
according to a Brigham Young University poll.
The survey shows that 51 percent of the Beehive State's voters view him unfavorably, while 40 percent view him favorably. In June, the numbers were almost exactly the opposite, with 50 percent viewing him favorably and 41 percent unfavorably.
A total of 57 percent of Utah residents would like Lee to be more willing to compromise, while 43 percent think he should stand by his principles.
A 65 percent majority of independents want him to compromise, and 51 percent of Republicans who don't support the tea party feel the same way. Among all Republicans, 62 percent want Lee to stand by his principles.
The survey of 1,040 Utah residents was conducted Oct. 2-7.
Lee also fared badly in a
Deseret News/KSL poll released last week. He faces re-election in 2016.
