Former President George H.W. Bush paid a surprise visit to President Barack Obama and the first lady Wednesday, greeting the couple on the tarmac next to Air Force One after they landed at his namesake airport in Houston.
"I just wanted to say hello to the president and the first lady," the elder Bush told reporters,
according to The Washington Post. "When the president comes to your hometown, you show up and welcome him."

Bush greeted the president and Michelle Obama from a wheelchair, set up near Air Force One after its landing at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. There were plenty of smiles while the former and current president spoke for several minutes, with President Obama putting his hand on Bush's shoulder and Michelle Obama holding his right hand.
The elder Bush and his family have returned to the spotlight lately. Last week, a symposium was held at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his presidency and to feature discussions of his foreign and domestic achievements.
After the surprise visit from Bush, Obama attended a meeting with 30 members of the Democratic National Committee at the Houston home of trial attorney Steve Mostyn and his wife, Amber,
reports The Houston Chronicle.
Several Democratic Party donors with deep pockets also attended the roundtable discussion Wednesday. For example, The Chronicle reports, Mostyn and his wife have contributed $3 million to Democratic PAC Priority USA.
Wednesday evening, Obama went to another fundraiser at the home of trial lawyer John Eddie Williams and Sheridan Williams, where couples shelled out $65,000 each to dine with the president and his wife.
The 60-or-so guests included Houston Mayor Annise Parker, former Mayor Bill White and former Texas Gov. Mark White,
reports the Chronicle.
Obama is heading to Austin Thursday to meet with Bush's son, former President George W. Bush and the two, along with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter will attend a Civil Rights Summit Planned at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library, where the younger Bush will speak.
