Two former classmates of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh came to his defense Monday in the face of accusations he drank too much alcohol in college.

Dan Murphy was one of Kavanaugh's former roommates and Chris Dudley was a classmate of the Circuit Court judge. Through the White House, they refuted claims Kavanaugh partied too much at Yale University.

"I was one of Brett's roommates or suite-mates for most of our time at Yale," Murphy said, The Hill reported. "Along with our other suite-mates, I not only socialized with Brett, but I was there with him at the end of the night when we came home, and there in the morning when we got up.

"I never saw Brett black out or not be able to remember the prior evening's events, nor did I ever see Brett act aggressive, hostile, or in a sexually aggressive manner to women."

Dudley said Kavanaugh consumed alcohol, but never too much.

"The person sometimes being described in the press is not the Brett Kavanaugh that I have known as a good friend for 35 years," Dudley wrote. "The person they are trying to describe would not be able to function day to day."

Kavanaugh went through several days of confirmation hearings in early September and his nomination appeared on track until a woman came forward to say he sexually assaulted her when they were in high school. Other women have made similar claims, while others say Kavanaugh drank a lot in high school and college.

The judge denies all the claims. His nomination advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, but several Republicans said they would only vote for him in a floor vote if the FBI investigates the accusations over a period of no more than a week — which the bureau is doing now.
