The Boy Scouts of America have called out President Donald Trump over his claim they fawned over his address at a scouting event as "the greatest speech that was ever made to them."
Trump has been under fire for politicizing his appearance at the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in West Virginia last week, bragging to thousands of young troops about his presidential victory and blasting Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the media.
While mortified Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh apologized that "politics were inserted into the Scouting program," Trump told The Wall Street Journal the Scouts' head personally called him at the White House to gush how it was "the greatest speech that was ever made to them."
But the Scouts told Time magazine on Wednesday the organization is unaware of any call from national leadership placed to the White House.
"The Chief Scout Executive's message to the Scouting community speaks for itself," the organization told Time, referring to Surbaugh's statement that the Scouts are nonpartisan and "sincerely regret" what Trump said.
