Democratic Boston Mayor Marty Walsh hit back at President Donald Trump's tweet praising him and law enforcement regarding the city's protests Saturday, saying that "Boston stood for peace and love, not bigotry and hate."
Here's is Walsh's Twitter post:
Trump lauded Walsh and Boston police for their "great job" in keeping the demonstrations from becoming violent a week after a woman died and 19 people were injured in Charlottesville.
But the president later tweeted support for "the many protestors in Boston who are speaking out against bigotry and hate."
Boston police arrested 27 people in protests surrounding the "Free Speech" rally, Police Commissioner William Evans said.
Most of the arrests were for disorderly conduct, with some for assault and battery because of skirmishes between police and protesters, he said.
