U.S. Border Patrol agents in Hidalgo, Texas, have been attacked three times in one week by people throwing rocks from the Mexican side, according to ABC's KRGV-5, one day after a Texas state trooper and a Rio Grande City Border Patrol agent were wounded during a gun battle.

"The agents reported that three subjects on the Mexican side of the river began throwing rocks at them," U.S. Customs and Border Protection said, per the Washington Examiner. "No force was used against the subjects, who eventually dispersed and departed the area."

The news comes a week after the U.S. CBP agency announced it would send an additional 150 agents to southern Texas to battle an increase in the seizure of illegal immigrants crossing.

The agent who was shot was struck in the chest, according to the Rio Grande Valley Public Affairs Office, but the bullet hit his ballistic armor.

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to cut down on the number of illegal immigrants living in the country, specifically those with criminal backgrounds. He also said he would build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, but softened his stance a bit, saying he would opt for fencing in some spots.
