Pat Boone to Republicans: Youth Can Save the GOP

By    |   Tuesday, 19 March 2013 05:43 PM EDT

Pop legend Pat Boone says young people are the key to the rebirth of the Republican Party and is urging the GOP to bombard social media to court them.

“We’ve got to be the party that has the real plan,’’ Boone told Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

“We’ve just got to be more effective, we’ve got to be more 21st century in the way we let young people.’’

The way to do that, he said, is by jumping on every up-to-the-second media outlet.

“We’ve got to use social media. We’ve got to use Twitter and all these things that seem so juvenile — and in a way they are — but we know that they help.’’

The 78-year-old hit maker — who ruled the charts in the 50s and 60s with smashes like “Love Letters in the Sand,’’ and “Ain’t That a Shame’’ — said young people everywhere believe in social media.

“[They] are tuning in to the social media and hear ads that are clever but truthful,’’ he said.

“You know they’re going to feel the economic pinch and we’ve got to keep on letting them know.’’

Boone, a lifelong Republican who campaigned for Ronald Reagan’s gubernatorial and presidential bids, said the GOP does not have to change its ideology — just deliver it differently.
