Bob Hope’s Palm Springs Estate for Sale for $50M

Bob Hope’s huge estate in Southern California is on the market – and the asking price is $50 million.

Used mostly as a second home and for entertaining by the comedic legend and his wife, Dolores, the home is located in Palm Springs, spans 23,366 square feet, and was designed in 1973 by John Lautner, the California Modernist architect, The New York Times reports.

The house was built to resemble a volcano, The Times reports, with three visorlike arches and an undulating concrete roof. A hole is at the center of the roof – opening to the sky.
The roofline has been described as one of the most distinctive architectural works in the Coachella Valley, The Times reports.

Hope was 100 when he died in 2003. Dolores hope died in 2011 at age 102.
Linda Hope, one of the couple’s two surviving children, told The Times that the home could accommodate as many as 300 dinner guests under a huge covered terrace. For many years, the couple played host to a party at the end of the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament, now called the Humana Challenge.

“That was sort of a highlight of the desert social calendar,” Hope told The Times. “Mother and Dad would sing together.”

The home – considered the couple’s “dream house,” their daughter said – has 6 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, 3 half baths, indoor and outdoor pools, a pond, putting greens, and a tennis court, The Times reports.
