House Unlikely to Move Stand-Alone Bill to Stop Medicare Cuts

Tuesday, 20 December 2011 12:30 PM EST

WASHINGTON — House Republicans have no plans to move a stand-alone bill to reverse a scheduled 27 percent cut in Medicare physician fees, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner said.

Both the House and Senate have opted to address Medicare payments to doctors as part of the debate over extending a payroll-tax cut set to expire on Jan. 1.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, said in an email today he is unaware of any plans to address physician fees separately.
