People are turning to religion during the coronavirus pandemic. Fox News reports that Bible sales are up as the coronavirus spreads.

With many people sheltering at home, they are ordering books to pass the time, including the Holy Bible.

According to the Fox report, several Christian book publishers have seen an increase in Bible sales since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

Alabaster Co., which sells religious books geared toward the Instagram generation, reported a sales increase of 143 percent compared to last year.

"In this life-altering and unprecedented pandemic, people are looking for hope and restoration," Brian Chung, co-founder and business director of Alabaster Co., told Fox News.

He told Fox News people are purchasing the Bible as an encouraging gift for loved ones and utilizing Alabaster’s free resources online. Alabaster is donating 100 percent of proceeds through Sunday from its book "All That Is Made" to Feeding America.

LifeWay Christian Resources CEO Ben Mandrell told Fox News he has seen an increase in Bible sales, too.

Compared to last year, sales at LifeWay are up 62 percent as of last week compared to the year before.

"We believe this is no accident, as people often go to the Bible as a source of hope in times of crisis and uncertainty," Mandrell told Fox News. "People draw hope from Scripture because in it they see a God who is with us during our suffering.”

Tyndale reports a 44 percent uptick in Bible sales this year. They have also noticed an increase in sales for their Life Application Study Bible and Immerse Bible for study groups. The company is giving readers the option to donate 10 percent of their order to a local library or bookstore during the coronavirus pandemic.
