Dr. Ben Carson: Obamacare More Damaging Than 9/11

Obamacare is not just worse than slavery, it’s worse than 9/11, Dr. Ben Carson told The Daily Beast, explaining that the terrorist attacks were an isolated incident, while the trouble-plagued healthcare legislation stands to do damage over a long period.

A Daily Beast reporter recently spoke to Carson, a politically conservative pediatric neurosurgeon, in a Sirius XM radio studio in New York City. The reporters asked Carson which he believed caused families more pain, Obamacare or Osama bin Laden.
Carson responded that the reporter needed to look at the "long term."

"You have to take a long-term look at something that fundamentally changes the power structure of America," Carson said. "You have to be someone who reads, who is well-read. I want you to go back tonight and pull out what [community organizer] Saul Alinsky says about healthcare under the control of the government."

The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank wrote a highly critical column about Carson, published last week, characterizing him as a demagogue with radical views that have catapulted Carson into a "conservative celebrity" over the past year.

"He has drawn a parallel between same-sex marriage and pedophilia and bestiality; he has declared the United States 'very much like Nazi Germany,'" Milbank wrote. "He has likened Obamacare to slavery; and he has called the veterans’ healthcare scandal, in which some died while on waiting lists for medical appointments, 'a gift from God' because it shows the ills of government healthcare."

In April, Carson stepped down as the commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins University after making headlines for an interview he did with Fox News about same-sex marriage.

"No group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA [North American Man-Boy Love Association], be they people who believe in bestiality ... they don't get to change the definition of marriage," Carson said.

The dean of Johns Hopkins’ medical school called Carson’s remarks offensive and divisive.

Carson later apologized and said he would not be speaking at the commencement, explaining that he didn’t want to "distract from the celebratory nature of the day."

Carson’s name has been tossed around as a possible 2016 presidential hopeful. He has said he has no plans to run but has not definitively said he will not seek the office.
