Democratic nominee for president Joe Biden has halted campaigning until after the next presidential debate with Donald Trump, the New York Post reported Monday, saying the former vice president has "called a lid" on public events.
The Post did not cite a source for the report but added Biden will focus heavily on preparing for the debate Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Post said the Biden campaign did not respond to a question about his schedule.
Biden returned to his home in Delaware on Sunday evening, two days after being asked for the first time about the p revelations in a New York Post report earlier in the week that emails showed Biden's son Hunter being thanked by a Ukrainian gas company executive for introducing the him to Joe Biden. Joe Biden has denied knowing anything about his son's foreign business dealings.
Biden responded to CBS reporter Bo Erickson by dismissing him and calling it a "smear campaign."
He was asked about the issue again Saturday and walked away.
Biden staged virtually no campaign events from mid-March, just after he secured the Democratic nomination and the novel coronavirus outbreak began to spread, until after Labor Day.
Meanwhile, Trump was to travel to Arizona on Monday for two campaign events, and then was to head to Pennsylvania and North Carolina on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Post reported Biden's vice presidential running mate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., was campaigning in Florida on Monday.
