Actor John Cleese of the British comedy troupe, ‘Monty Python’ fame, in defiance of "woke" culture, taunted voice actor Hank Azaria over his apology for his portrayal of The Simpson’s Indian character ‘Apu.’

Hank Azaria said, during a podcast interview, he needed “to go to every single Indian person in this country and personally apologize” for playing Apu, reports Breitbart.

Apu is the show’s Indian Kwik-E Mart proprietor.

With a sarcastic tone, Cleese offered his own make-believe apology for making fun of “white English people” in numerous Monty Python sketches. He tweeted,

"Not wishing to be left behind by Hank Azaria, I would like to apologize on behalf of Monty Python for all the many sketches we did making fun of white English people. We're sorry for any distress we may have caused."

Cleese, a consistent critic of identity politics, condemned cancel culture, saying it puts “emotionally unstable and fragile” people in positions of power, reported Breitbart.

The reason for the counter apology was because Azaria no longer voices the character, after he caved into pressure from liberals, objecting to a white man playing an Indian character, reported Breitbart.

Fox, The Simpson’s broadcast network, has endorsed this viewpoint by barring white actors from voicing non-white characters on the show, reports Breitbart.

The network producers at Fox have not announced a voice actor replacement for Apu.

In spite of Azaria’s decision to step away from the role, show creator Matt Groening said in March there are “ambitious” plans for the show that include the character.
