Spc. Nicholas C. Jividen died last week during “routine training” at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, Stars and Stripes reports.
Jividen, a 21-year-old signals intelligence analyst assigned to the Army’s 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), had been assigned to the 3rd Battalion, Headquarters and Support Company. He died on Nov. 6 in a “training accident,” but no further details have been provided.
Jividen is the second soldier to die in training on the West Coast in the last week, after Army Spc. Drew Watters died in a training accident in Washington on Nov. 4.
“With the ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment on the cause of death other than it was a training accident,” Army Special Operations Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Loren Bymer said in an email.
Jividen hailed from Charleston, West Virginia, and joined the Army in 2015. After serving in field artillary and military intelligence units, he was assigned to the 7th Group and deployed to Kuwait last year for six months to support Operation Inherent Revolve combating ISIS.
“It was an honor having him serve within the ranks of 7th SFG(A). He was a part of our family, and will not be forgotten,” said unit commander Col. Patrick T. Colloton.
