The National Border Patrol Council's vice president Tuesday criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for calling migrant detention centers "concentration camps."
"The fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the land of the free is extraordinarily disturbing," Ocasio-Cortez said in a live stream on Instagram on Monday.
"It's disgusting to compare concentration camps to what the men and women are doing here protecting our country," Art Del Cueto told Fox News on Tuesday.
He later offered to personally escort the congresswoman around a facility to show migrants are given humane treatment, and advised her to "crack open a history book" about the Holocaust.
"It is definitely a slap in the face to a lot of those people who had family members who actually went through concentration camps," he said.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to criticism of her remark in a tweet to Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., writing, "Hey Rep. Cheney, since you're so eager to 'educate me,' I'm curious: What do YOU call building mass camps of people being detained without a trial? How would you dress up DHS's mass separation of thousands children at the border from their parents?"
